Cathedral Square

The Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst is developing the church-owned land at the corner of High and Short Streets in Bendigo.
The Cathedral Square development will include a new building and landscaping in keeping with the local aesthetic and is complementary to Sacred Heart Cathedral. It will provide a welcome improvement to Bendigo’s CBD entry boulevard.
The building will provide office accommodation and parking for Diocese and Catholic Education Sandhurst staff, and a new parish hall facing the Cathedral. A significant commercial tenant will be the new Bendigo Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, which will be a tourist drawcard to central Bendigo. In addition to the building, there is plenty of public open space with gardens and terraces addressing the Cathedral. Lift and stair access between High St and the Cathedral will improve access.
Local builder, AW Nicholson, has been contracted to complete the project. Demolition and construction is expected to occur between November 2025 and October 2027.
Construction site facilities will be temporarily located on the crown land adjacent to the building site, reducing the impact on traffic in the area. Usual access will be available to the Cathedral.
